The Pitting Resistance Equivalent number employs statistical regression in SMO 254 H-Beam to relate pitting resistance to the chemical composition of a stainless steel. The Pitting Resistance Equivalent number calculations from various investigators have demonstrated that the pitting resistance of SMO 254 I-Beam depends primarily on the level of Cr, Mo, and N content.
The sensitivity of the Pitting Resistance Equivalent number data is such that within grade variations of Cr, Mo, and N near the nominal values for SMO 254 T-Beam. The apparent Pitting Resistance Equivalent number variation of Alloy 254 Angle is of minor import compared to effects from surface finish, normal variations in practical annealing conditions, and variations in the corrosiveness of the environment. Low nickel content of our Alloy 254 Chain makes them price stable.
