This removes chromium from the solid solution in these Stainless Steel 316Ti EFW Pipes and leaves lower chromium content adjacent to the grain boundaries, where steels in this condition are termed ‘sensitized’. The grain boundaries in our Stainless Steel 316Ti ERW Pipes become prone to preferential attack on subsequent exposure to a corrosive environment, where this type of corrosion is known as inter – granular corrosion (IC), as well known in the past as ‘weld decay’.

The addition of titanium in these Stainless Steel 316Ti Round Pipes reduces the risk of IC since titanium carbo – nitrides that are formed in preference to chromium carbides which have the effect of maintaining the correct distribution of chromium throughout the structure of the steel.
